Match Report

A dominant Crusaders side demolished Carrick Rangers at Seaview in emphatic fashion.

An early theme of the night would be the ease of which the home side’s attackers got in behind the Carrick defence, such was the case on eleven minutes when Paul Heatley ran clear, rounded Ross Glendinning and slotted the ball into the empty net.

Ten minutes later, it was Ben Kennedy’s turn to outrun the chasing pack and side-foot the ball into the top corner from the edge of the area.

Kyle Cherry was then shown a straight red card minutes later as a Crusaders counter-attack saw Heatley square the ball for Kennedy to tap in before he was pushed over by Cherry in the box, seeing a penalty conceded that Kennedy dusted himself down to score.

Kennedy’s hattrick was completed before half an hour had even been played; an aerial duel between Cameron Stewart and Adam Lecky saw the ball fall to the midfielder who exquisitely volleyed into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

It was five, and a fourth for Kennedy, before the break as some neat play on the left flank worked the ball inwards for him to sweep it home from ten yards.

The game continued in the same style through the second period as the ‘Gers conceded two minutes after the restart as Philip Lowry nipped in to loft the ball over Glendinning.

Having scored four himself, Kennedy then turned provider with a cross that found defender Billy Joe Burns who made no mistake with a bullet header.

Centre-half Jimmy Callacher would be the next to add his name to the scoresheet, his flicked header from a Ross Clarke corner-kick making it eight.

Substitute James Teelan wrapped up the night’s scoring as he hammered in the loose ball in the box to cement a humiliating defeat for Rangers.
